1.) United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania Honors the One Economy Corporation

On May 24, the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania presented its Community Impact Partners Award to the One Economy Corporation at its annual Leadership Awards event.
This award recognizes foundations, agencies, and organizations that play a major role in advancing the Community Impact Plan.

One Economy Corporation is the leading national organization addressing web content for low-income people through public policy efforts and programs that provide technology access to low-income housing, online consumer content, and youth leadership initiatives. Locally, United Way partners with One Economy to provide the Beehive web portal, which provides consumers with access to content and services needed to achieve economic independence. One Economy also provided the model for matching Beehive content with training and youth educational programs such as the Teen Technology Network.

2.) T4T Internship Program Skill Standards

The T4T Internship program has posted the employer-endorsed skill standards guides for four career clusters: Web Development & Administration, Network Design Administration, Tech Support, and Digital Media Skill Standards. Created by The Reinvestment Fund, these guides are a way to better articulate the skills employers are looking for in the leading entry level IT fields. They were modeled after the work from the National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies. With the participation of 41 employers and more than 100 companies that have endorsed the standards, these guides were disseminated to schools and training programs throughout the region to help align training with employer-defined skills. These can be found on the T4T website at www.uwsepa.org/team4tech/Skill_Standards.htm. For hard copies, please email robinb@uwsepa.org.

3.) Tech Tip: Word’s Built in Calculator

Did you know that you could add a calculator to Word's toolbars or menus? Go to View | Toolbars | Customize and choose the Commands tab. In the list of categories, go to Tools, select Tools Calculate in the list of commands, and drag it to a toolbar or drop-down menu. After you drop the command on the toolbar or menu, immediately right-click on the command, choose Change Button Image from the pop-up menu, and choose the calculator icon.
You can use the same pop-up menu to specify whether to display text, an icon, or both in the toolbar. Now, type a simple calculation (try 2 + 2) in a Word document, highlight it, and click on the new icon or menu item. To replace the calculation with the result, just press Ctrl-V. Before you press Ctrl-V, note that the result appears in the status line at the bottom of the window.
