A.T4T Assistance Program
We are thrilled to be able to offer our services to the nonprofit community for a small annual due determined on a sliding scale (starting at just $50 for the small budget). Membership in the Assistance Program includes a technology assessment, strategic technology plan, 5 cconsulting hours for implementation, eligibility for the Hardware Access Fund, discounts on T4T trainings and discounts on multiple IT services from T4T partners. United Way member agencies receive 20% off.

TechFoundation and Teaming for Technology at United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania invite you to TechConnect a series on information technology for nonprofits


Learn how to apply good decision-making skills to technology by:
*Understanding how to factor long-term costs and benefits into technology decisions
*Knowing where to turn for advice and assistance
*Finding out how to avoid the most typical problems with technology decisions

Presented by Rey Ramsey,
CEO, One Economy Corporation
Rey Ramsey is the CEO of One Economy. He is a nationally respected social entrepreneur and the author, with Ben Hecht, of ManagingNonprofits.org: Dynamic Management for the Digital Age (John Wiley & Sons). Prior to the founding of One Economy in July of 2000, Rey served as President and Chief Operating Officer of The Enterprise Foundation. He served in the cabinet for two governors of Oregon as the state's Director of Housing and Community Services. Rey serves on many boards including the Schnitzer Investment Corporation, Kaboom!, the Advisory Board of the Brookings Institution Center on Urban and Metropolitan Policy, the National Center for Victims of Crime and Habitat for Humanity International, where he serves as Vice Chair. He is a graduate of Rutgers University and the University of Virginia Law School.

* Who should attend?
All are welcome, but this presentation will be particularly useful for
nonprofit board members, chief executive officers, chief operating officers, chief financial officers, and other nonprofit executives.

* Do I need any expertise in information technology to benefit from
attending this session?
No. This is a non-technical presentation designed for professionals who are experts in other aspects of nonprofit administration, planning, and implementation.

* What is the format for this event?
There will be a presentation, with time allotted for questions, announcements, and shop talk.

* Do I need to make reservations?

1. DiscounTech (part of techsoup.org) offers many familiar titles
(including Microsoft Office) at significant discounts to nonprofit organizations. The deadline for DiscounTech's fiscal year is fast approaching. Nonprofits are limited to 3 Microsoft products (with up to 10 user licenses per product) each fiscal year. You have until June 30th to take advantage of your 3 products for the year. www.discountech.org

2. Do you need floppy disks?
You can sign up to receive free disks at www.floppiesforkiddies.org It may take a few weeks to receive the disks. They will mail current 3 ½ HD floppies that may need to be reformatted.

3. The next version of Mozilla (an open source web browser, competition for iexplorer and netscape) has been released. For more information or to download visit http://www.mozilla.org

A. Grants
1. Office of Vocational and Adult Education, Community Technology Centers Program; Notice Inviting Applications for New Awards for Fiscal Year (FY) 2002; Government opens grant to community technology centers. Grant guidelines are available in simple text form under June 4th.

They request a letter of intent by June 28th.


2. Help Us Help Foundation Offers Tech Grants to Schools and Youth
Organizations
Deadline: August 31, 2002; February 28, 2003; August 31,2003

With support from the Oracle Corporation, the nonprofit Help Us Help Foundation assists K-12 public schools and youth organizations in economically challenged communities to obtain information technology tools.

Grants of computer equipment and software are available to schools and youth organizations that provide educational programs in low-income communities. The program will donate new Internet appliances and laser printers as well as all the ancillary equipment necessary to connect the devices, including network hubs, cables, and electrical surge protectors.

1. NEW WEB SITE PROVIDES RESOURCES FOR EMPOWERING POOR COMMUNITIES
The Children's Partnership with the Markle Foundation have launched the Contentbank, a new Web site providing low-income communities with content designed fro their unique needs. Laurie Lipper, co-director of The Children's Partnership said, "We've seen first hand that low-income residents are eager to take advantage of the educational and employment opportunities on the Internet, and that community technology groups offer an ideal way to connect them with the information they need. Contentbank.org is both a service and a lever to ensure that the Internet benefits low-income and underserved users." The Web site includes twenty recommended Web sites for health, education, jobs and housing, discussion boards, information and tools to develop local content, and software tools that will read the content in a variety of languages to ensure the content is accessible to many communities.
